The Manawatū District Council collected submissions on the Representation Review for the 2022 and 2025 local body elections between 26 August and 27 September 2021. The consultation period has now closed.

Council will hear the feedback of submitters on 7 October, and is scheduled to deliberate on the submissions received and make a decision in the Council meeting on 4 November 2021.

We want to hear your thoughts on the proposed governance arrangements for Manawatū District Council.

The recent establishment of a Māori electoral ward means our current representation arrangements need to change.

Using feedback received during community early engagement, Council has reviewed its representation arrangements and come up with the following initial proposal.

Council's proposal

For the 2022 and 2025 local body elections, Manawatū District Council is proposing having a Mayor and eleven Councillors.

Mō ngā kōwhiringa pōti hei te 2022 me te 2025, e marohitia ana e Te Kaunihera ā-Rohe o Manawatū kia kotahi te Kahika, kia tekau mā tahi ngā Kaikaunihera.

Five would be elected from the Feilding Ward, five would be from the Rural Ward and one would be from the Māori Ward.

E rima ka pōtihia i te tūtanga o Kawakawa, e rima i te tūtanga Tuawhenua, kotahi i te tūtanga Māori.

Council is not proposing establishing any community boards. Instead, they will continue to liaise with the rural villages through their Community Committees.
