Consultation Extension Approved

The Development and Financial Contributions Consultation now closes 14 February 2025.

The Development and Financial Contributions Consultation was brought before the Council for review in response to public feedback, which highlighted the opportunity to extend the consultation period, ensuring more time for the community to provide thoughtful and well-considered submissions.

Council considered the feedback and approved an extension to the consultation period.  The Development and Financial Contributions Policy Consultation will now close Friday 14 February 2025.

“The policy and options being consulted on affect who will fund the cost of growth in our District, as ultimately everyone benefits from having more people live and work in our District,” Mayor Helen Worboys explains. “We encourage everyone to have their say about how we should fund the cost of new infrastructure needed to manage future growth.”

Development contributions are fees charged to people who subdivide land, usually to build new houses or commercial buildings.  Everyone benefits from growth through the vibrancy and economic benefits it brings to the District, especially as more people help share the rate burden.  More information including the draft policy, can be found by visiting: mdc.govt.nz/developmentcontributions
