Creative Communities is now open

The Creative Communities Scheme is open and ready for artistic applicants to showcase their talents for the new funding year.

Creative Communities is a funding scheme offered to councils through Arts Council of New Zealand.  The Manawatū District Council administers the fund at a local level to help applicants fund art projects within the district.

Regardless of the experience of the applicant, whether it’s a single artist or a group of passionate and creative residents working together, the scheme has enabled a multitude of exhibitions, projects and passionate people to connect with other like-minded creatives.

Projects must do at least one of the following:

  • Create opportunities for local communities to engage with and participate in the local arts activities,
  • supports the diverse artistic cultural traditions of local communities
  • enables young people (under 18 years) to engage with and participate in the arts.

Past projects have fulfilled these requirements by running classes aligned with their artistic medium, hosting exhibitions, or speaking engagements.

For the first time within the Creative Communities Scheme, the application is now digital through SmartyGrants.  SmartGrants is an online portal to help manage funding applications.  Applicants can now easily jump from page to page, save a draft application and utilise the built in spellcheck to ensure a more professional application.
