Hobson Street Carpark has begun
Work is currently underway on the newest carpark that is being constructed off Hobson Street.
The carpark will host 49 carparks that aim to provide added off-street parking particularly for Manawatū Community Hub Libraries’ users and visitors to Te Āhuru Mōwai.
The off-street parking will help to reduce congestion on Hobson Street and make it more convenient for patrons to utilise the programmes, classes, resources, and the onsite café within Te Āhuru Mōwai.
Te Āhuru Mōwai has four meeting rooms that have been well utilised since the facility opening in July. The added parking creates ease to organisers of meetings and events to ensure that guests and attendees are well catered for.
The carpark project involves several critical components prior to the final asphalt surface being laid including upgrades to the current stormwater management to ensure effective handling of runoff. Safety and accessibility have been front of mind as nine lighting towers will be installed throughout the carpark area ensuring evening and afterhours access is reliable.
The carpark’s close proximity to the Makino Precinct which includes the Feilding Skatepark and Lions Mini Golf is an added advantage. Soon to be constructed on a neighbouring area is the half-court basketball court. MDC acknowledges and thanks Central Energy Trust and NZ Community Trust for their financial support towards each project.
The parking lot will be free to use and is anticipated to be complete by February 2025.
