Making a splash with paint
The Makino Aquatic Centre (MAC) is thrilled to announce the completion of a vibrant new mural that bring colours and community partnership to an otherwise outdated wall.
This exciting art project is a collaborative effort between MAC and local artist Joe McMenamin.
The mural, which can be seen on Church Street, brings a sense of energy and connection to the space as it is both a directional sign within the shared MAC and St Paul’s Parish Church parking lot and brings to life the newest member of the Makino team; the dolphin. Although yet to be named, the mascot can be seen in various publications across the MAC brand.
“We are incredibly excited to reveal this mural to the public,” said Aimee Flanders Aquatic Services Manager. “This mural not only enhances the aesthetic of the street but also serves as a testament to the creativity and partnership found throughout our facility.”
The project was spearheaded by local artist Joe McMenamin who is well known for his murals across the district. Working together to deliver a shared vision, the mural is a perfect complement to the neighbouring mural commissioned by St Paul’s Parish Hall, also completed by McMenamin.
The mural has been completed in time for the influx of summer swimmers at the MAC and creates a sense of pride and connection among the people who enjoy the Aquatic Centre and its facilities.
