MDC has gotten smarter with their funding applications thanks to SmartyGrants

Manawatū District Council has implemented SmartyGrants and Manawatū Grant Finder to make finding and applying for funding easier.

SmartyGrants is an online portal to help manage the funding application process which overall can be a very time intensive activity and is often completed by volunteer positions in community organisations and clubs.

Now when a community funding application is completed through the MDC website, the application is fully digitalised.  This enables the applicant to save as they go, easily jump from page to page, and save a draft application to continue to complete at a later date.  Spell check is even integrated to make applications as professional as possible for applicants.

Once the application is submitted, the appropriate Council officer is notified as the application is automatically elevated to the assessment stage.  If the application is successful, the applicant is notified through email, and a digital paper trail is provided throughout the process – including reminders for accountability reports.

“Funding applications are an important part of the success of community organisations and it’s important to make the process as seamless as possible for those taking the time to research and fill out the applications.” Janine Hawthorn explains.

In addition to making the process more transparent, MDC has also introduced Manawatū Grant Finder, GrantGuru.  Announced in February of this year, GrantGuru coupled with SmartGrants provides an all-inclusive way to search and apply for funding.  GrantGuru allows applicants to search for grant and funding opportunities specific to local businesses and community groups.  “GrantGuru includes government and private sector grants so whether you are experienced in searching and applying, or new to the opportunities available it’s a great search engine to start with,” Hawthorn explains.
