Battery Recycling Drop-Off Program Launches in Feilding
Recycling your old batteries isn't just the right thing to do—it’s the smart thing to do and the Manawatū District Council is making it easier to do so with the help of Mitre 10 in Feilding and Phoenix Recycling thanks to a newly installed drop off bin.
Batteries power our lives—from TV remotes and children’s toys to laptops, vapes, and cell phones. But when they’re thrown in the trash, batteries can leak dangerous chemicals like lead, mercury, and cadmium into our soil and waterways.
Recycling your old batteries isn't just the right thing to do—it’s the smart thing to do and the Manawatū District Council is making it easier to do so with the help of Mitre 10 in Feilding and Phoenix Recycling thanks to a newly installed drop off bin.
The bin is located outside the front entrance making it easy to drop off our batteries when it’s most convenient for you. To prevent short circuiting, a piece of tape should be placed over the terminals.
What Can Be Recycled?
The program accepts most household batteries, including:
- Alkaline (AA, AAA, 9V, etc.)
- Lithium-ion (rechargeable batteries from electronics)
- Nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd)
- Button cell batteries (found in watches, hearing aids)
How It Works:
- Safely store used batteries at home in a cool, dry place.
- Bring them to Mitre 10, 44 Kimbolton Road Feilding.
- Place batteries in the clearly marked bins. It’s that easy!
The small step of recycling your batteries can lead to big results. Let’s work together to keep hazardous waste out of our landfills and create a more sustainable community.
