Totara Reserve Regional Park

Situated 35km from Feilding, Totara Reserve includes 348ha of land ranging from river flats to hills of some 450 to 600 metres in height.

This Reserve is a much-prized area of bush with a Podocarp forest covering hills and valleys. Predominant trees include Totara, Matai, Rimu and Kahikatea. There are also some Black Beech trees and Dicksonia Squarrosa tree ferns. Native Birds to be found in the reserve include Tui, Fantail, Wax eye, Morepork, Bellbird, Kingfisher and Wood Pigeon.

Fern Walk

One of Totara Reserve's great assets is the Fern Walk - a 5km track officially opened in February 2000. The track was developed to encourage Manawatu residents and visitors to the region to venture into the outdoors. Situated on the south-eastern block of the reserve on Pohangina Valley East Road, the walk takes about two hours.

Facilities

12 caravan points, power points, tent sites, picnic grounds, showers, public toilets, barbecues, clean drinking water and a children's play area.

Please note that the picnic areas are free of charge. There is, however, a small fee for tent and caravan sites which is payable to the on-site caretaker.

Dogs and chainsaws are not allowed in the reserve.
