Rubbish & Recycling

The Manawatū District Council is dedicated to reducing waste and keeping our community clean. Together with the Waste Management Minimisation Plan, we aspire to reach zero waste through education, development and implementation of recycling, reuse and recovery methods.

As a Council we run a weekly kerbside rubbish collection and an alternating fortnightly recycling collection service in the District. Council blue rubbish bags are for sale at supermarkets and stores located throughout the Manawatu District, as well as at the front counter of the Council building in Feilding. To ensure that your rubbish and recycling are collected, please make sure it is kerbside by 7:30am on your collection day.

For more information, have a read of our handy Rubbish & Recycling Guide (PDF file, 1.2 MB) . The tips in this guide will help you reduce the amount of waste you send to landfill. It will help with what you can recycle and when, and the services we provide for effective waste management in the community. It’s much easier than you might have thought!

Another useful resource is this Household Recycling Guide put together by the Manawatū Community Trust, with support from our Waste Not Want Not Fund. It covers recycling options for items from coffee pods to scrap metal Check it out and see what you can be recycling - you might be surprised!
